Wheels for Ford Ranger: 6x139.7 (T6) or 5x108 (older gen) — What Fits Each Generation
From 2009 to Current Ranger — A Practical Guide to Bolt Pattern, Wheel Size, and Offset, No Fluff
The trap he almost fell into: a set of 22-inch wheels with 275/35/22 tires for R$ 6,800, advertised as "for Ranger, track-tested." I used the simulator to show him how it looked. It looked great in the photo, but I Googled reviews for that wheel model — three customers reported bent rims before 20,000 km in mixed use.
He ended up buying Mangels Alpes 18-inch wheels with 265/60/18 AT tires. R$ 4,600 for the set. Today, he drives on the farm with 400 kg in the bed, returns to the city stress-free, and the AT tires handle dirt roads like a champ.
The rule he followed, and one I'll share here: The Ranger is a work truck. Treat it well, and it will take you far.
Ranger T6 vs. Older Ranger — Know Your Model
The Brazilian Ranger changed radically in 2013. Before that, it was a pickup based on an American platform. Afterward, it became the T6 — Ford's global platform, shared with the Everest, Raptor, among others.
Ranger T6 (2013-Present)
- Bolt Pattern: 6x139.7
- Hub Bore: 93.1mm
- Original Wheel Size: 17" (XLS/XLT), 18" (Limited/Storm), special 17" (Raptor)
- Offset: +30 to +44
- Compatible Wheels: Hilux (same 6x139.7 + hub-centric ring), Everest, Triton HPE+
Pre-T6 Ranger (2004-2012)
- Bolt Pattern: 5x108 or 5x114.3 (varies by version)
- Hub Bore: 63.4mm or 67.1mm
- Original Wheel Size: 15" (XL), 16" (XLT), 17" (late-model Limited)
- Compatible Wheels: American Escape (with 5x114.3), few Ford SUV models
Quick test: 6 lug nuts = T6. 5 lug nuts = Older Ranger. After 2013, Ford Brazil only sold the T6.
17-inch, 18-inch, or 20-inch Wheels: What Makes Sense
I separate by use:
17-inch Wheels — Heavy-Duty Use
265/65/17 tires are the combination I recommend for a Ranger used on farms, construction sites, or trails. Taller sidewalls absorb impact. AT tires like BFGoodrich KO2, Cooper AT3, General Grabber X3 cost R$ 1,000 to R$ 1,500 each in 2026. A new set of 17-inch 6x139.7 wheels (Mangels, KR): R$ 2,800 to R$ 4,000.
Disadvantage: It looks understated. If you want to turn heads in the mall parking lot, 17-inch wheels won't do it.
18-inch Wheels — The Most Versatile
The Ranger Limited already comes with 18-inch wheels. Aftermarket set: R$ 4,000 to R$ 6,000. 265/60/18 tires cost R$ 1,300 to R$ 1,800 each. Similar sidewall height to 17-inch, better visual presence, slightly superior cornering stability (wider wheel).
For those who use their truck 70% city / 30% dirt roads, 18-inch wheels are the choice you'll regret the least.
20-inch Wheels — Urban Style
20-inch wheels visually transform the Ranger. But 275/55/20 tires cost R$ 1,600 to R$ 2,500 each. When hitting a pothole, the impact goes to the rim, not the tire. A Ranger Limited with 20-inch wheels is common in capital cities and holds up well if your routine is asphalt + parking lots.
I wouldn't put them on a Ranger that will be driven on dirt roads. I've seen 20-inch wheels crack on poorly marked speed bumps.
Offset — Where the Ranger Differs
The Ranger T6 prefers an offset of ET +38 to +44. This is more positive than the average pickup (Hilux and S10 prefer +30 to +35). This makes the wheel sit further "in" the fender.
If you install wheels with an ET +20 offset, the wheel pushes outwards. Visually aggressive, mechanically stressful. The front wheel bearing on the Ranger T6 is good, but not infinite — 50,000 km with the wrong offset can already start to cause play.
The exception is the Raptor, which comes from the factory with an ET +18 offset and a wider track design. You can't simply replicate the Raptor's setup on an XLT without adjusting the fenders and hub.
93.1 Hub Bore — A Detail Few Talk About
Aftermarket wheels often come with a hub bore of 106, 108, or 110mm (to fit various pickups). On the Ranger, the hub bore is 93.1mm. That's a 13-17mm difference.
Without a hub-centric ring, the wheel centers on the lug nuts (lug-centric vs. hub-centric). For gentle urban use, it's fine. For hauling, highway driving, heavy loads — you'll get vibration, uneven wear, and balancing that only lasts 2 months. A 106→93.1 hub-centric ring costs R$ 40 per pair. Buy them.

What NOT to Do with Your Ranger
Do not use Australian Everest wheels without confirming the hub bore. Some Australian Everest versions have a 108mm hub bore, which will interfere with the lug nuts on the Brazilian Ranger.
Do not buy "pickup truck" wheels without a specific model fitment. The Ranger prefers wheels designed specifically for it or for the Hilux (with a hub-centric ring).
Do not put 22-inch wheels on a Ranger XLS. The springs are softer than on the Limited, and the shocks are more compliant. 22-inch wheels will be torture.
Do not ignore maximum load capacity. A loaded Ranger XLT can reach 2,800 kg GVWR. The maximum load per wheel should be 900 kg+ for safety. Passenger car wheels cannot handle this.
If You're Swapping Wheels, Check First
Before spending money on wheels, test them in the simulator. Upload a photo of your Ranger, choose the wheels, and see if the look matches. If 20-inch wheels look "too much" with your car's color, you'll find out for free. Then you can install them with confidence.
A well-maintained Ranger easily reaches 400,000 km. The wrong wheels can kill your suspension in 80,000 km. Choose once, choose well.
