Jeep Compass Wheels: 5x110 Bolt Pattern, 65.1 Hub Bore, and the Ideal Wheel Size by Version
The Ultimate Guide to Brazil's Best-Selling SUV — From Sport to Trailhawk, including S and Longitude Trims
I tested 19-inch wheels with 235/50/19 tires and 20-inch wheels with 245/45/20 tires in the simulator. With the 20-inch wheels, the tire looked visually too thin — and her Compass drove 120 km/week on BR-040, a road full of potholes. The 19-inch wheels struck the right balance: presence, comfort, and a reasonable tire sidewall.
Mangels Palladium 19-inch black diamond-cut wheels — R$ 5,400 per set, Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5 tires for R$ 1,100 each. Total R$ 9,800. It turned out exactly as she imagined, without sacrificing her daily routine.
The Compass offers good leeway for wheels. But everyone makes mistakes in the details: they think the bolt pattern is universal, forget about offset, and ignore the hub bore. I'll explain.
Compass — Factory Specifications
All Brazilian Compass versions (2017 to present) use:
- Bolt Pattern: 5x110
- Hub Bore: 65.1mm
- Offset: +40 to +45 (varies by version)
- Original Wheel Size: 17" (Sport), 18" (Longitude), 19" (Limited/S/Trailhawk superior)
- Original Tire Size: 225/65/17, 225/60/18, 235/50/19 depending on version
This is the European FCA bolt pattern. The same as the Renegade, Fiat 500X, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Fiat Tipo. Good news: the European used wheel market (and aftermarket replacements) is abundant.
Wheel Size by Version — What Comes Standard and What to Upgrade To
Compass Sport (17-inch wheels)
It comes with simple 17-inch wheels, 225/65/17 tires. It's the "functional basic." A common upgrade: 18-inch wheels with 225/60/18 tires. It costs R$ 3,400 to R$ 4,800 for a set of wheels + R$ 800-1,200 per tire (Goodyear, Pirelli, Continental). It doesn't change the car's height, only its visual presence.
Compass Longitude (18-inch wheels)
It comes with 18-inch wheels from the factory, 225/60/18 tires. Many people upgrade to 19-inch wheels to mimic the Limited. Cost: 19-inch wheels + 235/50/19 tires → R$ 8,000 to R$ 12,000. It's worth it if the use is purely urban. On very bad roads, 18-inch wheels with a taller tire provide more peace of mind.
Compass Limited / S (19-inch wheels)
It already comes with diamond-cut 19-inch wheels. Upgrading to 20-inch wheels is purely cosmetic — 245/45/20 tires cost R$ 1,400 to R$ 2,200 each, have a greater impact on potholes, and offer only a 5% stronger visual appeal. I rarely recommend it.
Compass Trailhawk
17-inch off-road wheels, Firestone Destination AT 235/65/17 tires, with an inward offset to protect the fender. Swapping to 18-inch or 19-inch urban wheels will change its character and lose off-road capability. If you bought a Trailhawk for that purpose, keep it as is.
Compass vs Renegade — The Non-Direct Swap
The Compass and Renegade share a 5x110 bolt pattern and a 65.1 hub bore. But:
- Compass Offset: +44 (approximate)
- Renegade Offset: +40
- Original Compass 18-inch wheel width: 7"
- Original Renegade 17-inch wheel width: 6.5"
The swap is possible, but: 17-inch Renegade wheels on a Compass will sit a bit "inward" (4mm). Visually minor, mechanically okay. However, Compass wheels on a Renegade might push too far outward. Evaluate before mounting.
65.1 Hub Bore — Nearly Universal FCA
The 65.1mm hub bore is shared by:
- Fiat Toro
- Jeep Compass / Renegade
- Fiat 500X / Fastback / Pulse
- Fiat Tipo / Older Stilo / Bravo
- Alfa Romeo Giulietta / Giulia (some)
- Peugeot 308 (some European versions)
This means that aftermarket wheels with a 65.1 hub bore fit directly. If they come with a larger hub bore (66.1 or 73), you'll need hub-centric rings — they cost R$ 40-60 per pair.
Offset — Why ET +44 Matters
The Compass has independent suspension on all four wheels, with a McPherson strut front suspension. The design was made for an offset of +40 to +44. A smaller ET pushes the wheel outward — in a pothole, the leverage on the suspension pivot increases.
I have a client who installed ET +28 wheels on their Limited to "give it a wider stance." 60,000 km later, the front control arm bushing failed. R$ 1,400 for repairs. With the original ET, it would have lasted 120,000 km easily.

Common Mistakes with the Compass
1. Buying Renegade wheels thinking they are identical. Different offset, different width. It will look off.
2. Thinking 20-inch wheels are a mandatory upgrade. On BR-040, it becomes torture. 19-inch wheels are sufficient for 99% of cases.
3. Sport springs + thin-sidewall tires. An expensive combo that kills shock absorbers in 40,000 km.
4. Ignoring maximum load capacity. The Compass Limited can weigh up to 1,950 kg. Wheels with a low load rating (480 kg) will be at their limit. Prefer 680 kg+ per wheel.
Before You Buy
I recommend a basic step to avoid mistakes: test the wheel you want in the simulator, on your Compass's color. 30 seconds, a photo of your car, the wheel applied. If you like how it looks, proceed with confidence. If it looks strange, try another without spending money.
The Compass is a well-built SUV. It lasts 300,000 km if you respect its design. Respecting it includes choosing wheels compatible with the car's philosophy — and not blindly copying what your neighbor installed.
